5 Reasons Why You Should Study for the SPSV Exam

If you want to drive a taxi, limousine or hackney in Ireland you must pass the SPSV Entry Exam. The exam contains 90 multiple choice questions, divided in two modules: Industry Knowledge (54 questions) and Area Knowledge (36 questions).
To be successful, a candidate must reach the pass mark of 75% on each module. The Area Knowledge module is based on the county where the candidate intends working. That means they are required to know for instance the locations of sporting venues, roads, hotels, hospitals, parks, churches, museums, and many other categories.
In the Industry Knowledge module, the candidate will find questions about topics such as taxi fares, the SPSV legislation, safety measures, what vehicles can be used as an SPSV, and how to deliver customer satisfaction.
Preparation
Due to the complexity of the SPSV Entry Test, unfortunately the failure rate is very high for candidates who do not prepare themselves properly before they sit the exam. That is why studying before booking the exam is crucial. There are no shortcuts.
Taxischool is the number 1 in Ireland in teaching people how to pass the SPSV Exam. If you are applying for County Dublin we run a live course that has helped hundreds of students pass their tests first time. Find out more here. If you are looking for a Licence for another county, our Taxischool App is the best tool to help you prepare for the SPSV Exam. You can find all the information here about the App for your county.
Here are the five main reasons why an SPSV Licence course is a game changer on your journey to get an SPSV Licence.
1 – There are too many questions to learn
The National Transport Authority (NTA) is responsible for elaborating the SPSV Entry Test. It has a very large database of questions to choose from and add to the exam. There are over 1,000 possible questions.
The Taxischool course covers all categories you need to study on both Industry and Area Knowledge and gives some guidance on how best to prepare yourself to sit the exam.
2 – Exam fee
The SPSV Exam booking fee is of €90. That means that if you do not pass the test on your first attempt and wish to book it again you will have to pay that fee again and again until you pass the exam.
If you pass one module and fail the other one, the next time you sit the exam you can do only the module you have failed, but still you will need to pay the €90 fee. E.g. John sat the SPSV Exam for the first time and passed the Industry Knowledge but failed the Area Knowledge. Next time he sits his exam he only needs to do the Area Knowledge one, but the fee he needs to pay for it remains the same.
Better pass first time, then.
3 – Confidence to sit the Exam
Studying for the SPSV Exam will give you the confidence you need. Arriving at the SPSV Test Centre with a great knowledge on the questions you will find makes the experience much less overwhelming. Because you have prepared yourself, you know what is waiting for you.
4 – Speed up the SPSV Licence process
Before you apply for the SPSV Driver Licence you must pass the SPSV Exam. But before you are issued with your Licence you are submitted to the Garda Vetting process, that can take up to 12 weeks to be completed. It means that the sooner you pass the better. If you fail several times in the SPSV Entry Test, you will have to wait much longer before you start driving a taxi, limousine or hackney and consequently will be postponing the profits you will make in your career.
5 – Be prepared for when you start operating
Even though the pass rate of people who do not study before the SPSV Exam is very low, it does not mean that you cannot pass on your first attempt without studying. But will you really be prepared to start operating if you do not have a very good knowledge of the industry and the area where you are working?
An SPSV Licence course will teach you much more than how to pass your Exam, it will provide you with all the knowledge you need to learn in order to be a professional prepared to start working immediately after your SPSV Licence is issued. Remember that your customers will expect a certain level of knowledge and professionalism when they get in your vehicle.
Taxischool highly advise people interested in becoming SPSV Drivers that while they are doing a live or online course, they study a minimum of 2 hours per day during 4 weeks by themselves before they book their entry test.
