That is certainly one of the questions that people looking to become Taxi, Limousine or Hackney Drivers in Ireland ask more frequently to the Taxischool team. Indeed, there are some requirements that need to be fulfilled by candidates seeking to start their career as SPSV Drivers.

Here is the list of requirements made by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and An Garda Síochána:

  1. The candidate must have passed the SPSV Entry Test and thus present the SPSV Skills Development Certificate when applying for the Licence. The certificate is given by the NTA to candidates who are successful in the Test;
  2. The candidate must hold a full category B Driver Licence from Ireland or another EU/EEA State for a minimum of 12 months;
  3. The applicant must prove that their tax affairs are up to date;
  4. The driver must not have had any driving offense specified in the section 30 (3) of the Schedule to the Consolidated Taxi Regulation Acts 2013 and 2016 (the Garda Vetting process will investigate the details of the applicant once they apply for the SPSV Licence);
  5. The applicant must be entitled to work as a self-employed person in Ireland;
  6. The driver must provide details of any other occupation in which they are engaged, and, if that other occupation involves driving, evidence that they have informed the employer of their intention to apply for an SPSV driver licence;
  7. The applicant must show a declaration that their health does not materially affect their ability to drive an SPSV;
    8. The applicant will complete the free, 30 minute online professional development course for Safeguarding and Disability Awareness. The NTA will send a link on successful completion of the SPSV Driver Entry Test. There is no pass/fail requirement for this course but it must be completed prior to paying the SPSV driver application fee.

* An Garda Síochána may request any other documents at the moment of the application.

If you fulfill all requirement above, you are entitled to apply for your SPSV Driver Licence in Ireland and start working in this promising career. Check out how to obtain your SPSV Driver Licence.
